Bomi & Billy at Thornewood Castle…

Monday, May 4th, 2015

Bomi and Billy’s wedding was featured last year in the summer issue of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine, and I’m excited to finally get these gorgeous feminine photos by KT Merry up on the blog. Each shot feels sort of like a dreamy fairytale, no? The bride and groom live in New York, so we only got to meet once before their wedding, but they were a breeze to work with and so kind and appreciative. Grooms are usually pretty preoccupied day-of (and rightfully so), but Billy made a point to find me during set-up to thank us and tell me again just how happy Bomi was with everything we had created. It’s the little things…

Old World Charm in the Pacific Northwest…

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

I have to get better at posting our work on a regular basis because the more back-logged our photo files become, the more daunting the task to get ‘caught up’, and then of course the less likely I will actually get around to doing it. And I’m sitting on photos from some of our favorite events thus far, so it seems a shame not to share. So (coming at you in no particular order), I’m jumping in with this wedding from last July that took place at Lakewold Gardens

Tec Petaja shot these stunning images (and posted a three-part series on his blog if you’d like to see more).  I can’t tell you enough how nice it is to work with such a talented photographer. I’m committed to and invested in all of my weddings, but when you know you get to work with the best of the best, you might just bust your tush a bit more to make sure he (or she) has every detail he needs to capture and tell the complete and beautiful story. So please please please invest in a talented photographer. Nobody every regrets it.

The lovely stationary was designed by Kelsey of Willow & Ink Studio.
Holly Rohrbacher handled planning and logistics.
And we tackled event design, day-of styling, and florals.

The bride and groom were friends of one of our other favorite couples and were just as wonderful to work with. They really cared about creating a beautiful experience for their guests and offered me their complete trust. Cheers (and thank you) Salil & Jenn!

A Summer of Color (+ A Note on Design)

Friday, September 12th, 2014

I can’t believe how much color has made its way through our studio this year. It’s been fun and refreshing and makes me appreciate a wider variety of palettes. Lately, since I’ve been able to do a bit of it all, I’m not burnt out on any of it (which hasn’t always been the case in years past). And maybe I just haven’t done this long enough, but the list of color combinations and styles I’d still like to capture goes on and on. When I’m able to add in the other elements as well (candles, textiles, china, paper, food…), the possibilities increase tenfold. I still feel inspired creating a single arrangement, but bringing together all of the pieces is what I love most. It goes without saying that the same arrangement set against rich velvet creates a really different look and feel when placed on soft airy chiffon. This topic of ‘design beyond flowers’ seems to surface quickly when what I started out to accomplish was a quick blog post of colorful photos, but I suppose it’s because many people still don’t know that in additional to florals, we work closely with many of our clients on the overall design of their event.

Actually, for the wedding below, I worked with the planner (Alex from Taylor’d Events by Jennifer who was wonderful) and never even met the clients. A definite first for us, but I heard that they were thrilled with the results, thank goodness. I enjoyed this one because Alex filled me in on the clients’ personalities and style (the groom’s an artist and the bride would be wearing a red tulle skirt and sequined shoes) and then told me to run with it. With a funky, industrial, slightly rustic art gallery as our backdrop, I wanted to create something eclectic and fun, yet tasteful. A bold stripe for the linens + ghost chairs, rattan chargers, art supplies clustered on the table for guests to get creative, and vibrant jewel-toned flowers for the finishing touch. Plus, this wedding had five food trucks parked right outside the main doors, so all in all, I’d call it a success.

Single-Petaled Reds

Saturday, July 5th, 2014

Single petaled peonies in any color, really. Irresistible. And when they’re locally grown and flawless such as these beauties, it makes my job seem a bit more like play. (Extremely exhausting but beautiful, satisfying play.) And actually, now looking back through these photos from a recent wedding, I realize that not just the peonies, but every single stem used came from a local garden–farms in Bellingham, Ferndale, Mount Vernon, Chehalis, Stanwood and Seattle–all ending up on The Corson’s Building‘s tables. Amazing food, romantic interiors, local flowers, flickering candlelight… It really doesn’t get much better.

Featured on Style Me Pretty…

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

SMP
Ellie & Quang’s wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty this week with gorgeous photography by Bryce Covey. This was definitely one of my favorites from 2013… From our first meeting, I knew I’d enjoy working with Ellie. She had great taste but was laid back and seemed to completely trust me.

She understood the beauty of simplicity, and I was excited to carry that theme throughout their wedding day. Mixing clean with rustic, touches of romance with nature, we were able to achieve a beautiful balance. Together we worked through table and chair selections, calligraphy styles and paper pieces, room layout, favor ideas… After she mentioned possibly wanting a tea station for guests, I jumped on the idea and started brainstorming. (What results as something so simple often takes many hours of sketching, planning, adding and taking away to settle on the final product.) Keeping with a minimal yet romantic aesthetic, I designed a display that greeted guests as they entered the room, bursting with blush pink foxglove and displaying beautiful loose leaf teas in simple glass jars. Muslin bags with custom tags allowed guests to scoop up their favorite flavors to take home as the favor.

Staying true to the overall design plan, we forwent typical centerpieces and instead created continuous garland-esque designs down all of the wooden tables out of interesting berries and greenery. Mixed in were English garden roses and lots of candlelight. I quite like the result.

Thank you, Ellie, for giving me freedom to create and think outside the box a bit. You were so wonderful to work with.

{Also, that dress. And braid! With a Jenny Packham dress from our local Seattle shop The Dress Theory, Erin Skipley on hair and makeup, and Bryce behind the lens, this bride was in good hands.}

Whidbey Island Wedding Flowers

Monday, January 20th, 2014

I just came across these flowery photos I snapped at a Whidbey Island wedding last August and thought I’d share on the blog. Sometimes I look back through old photos to see what was in season during a particular week to help plan for a future event; right now it’s September 20th. (My husband says I plan too far out. He’s talking about life of course and not flowers.) But humor me. What are your favorite September flowers? (Dahlias are of course on the list.) I find it sort of therapeutic to dream about such things when it’s still January and not dahlia season…
